Individuals who are sleeping rough choose to sleep in open areas where they can be easily seen due to a number of protective factors. However, this often leads to being woken up by police who issue move on notices or being disturbed by members of the public. Unfortunately, the issue of a move on notice means that these individuals must get up, gather their belongings and move elsewhere to avoid a criminal charge.

Individuals experiencing homelessness, particularly those who are rough sleeping often face significant challenges in achieving adequate sleep. The quality and quantity of sleep is impacted by environmental factors such as weather conditions, hypervigilance due to fear of being attacked or having their belongings stolen, lack of comfort and peace due to ongoing disturbances.
